Welcome to 4 Minute Fridays, my weekly newsletter, where I reveal cutting-edge tips to help you get lean, boost energy, and live longer.

What's in store for today:

  • The worst type of plastic to keep in your kitchen
  • How to smell your way to a smarter brain
  • My favorite book of 2025 so far

Today's issue is brought to you by LMNT electrolytes.

Every morning, I put water and an LMNT pack into my bottle, shake it several times, and drink it before anything else hits my system.

Electrolytes are the unsung heroes of hydration and performance for active people.

Minerals—like sodium, potassium, and magnesium—are essential for energy, muscle contractions, nerve function, and fluid balance.

Also, when you sweat, you lose these vital electrolytes, which can lead to cramping, and fatigue leading to decreased mental and physical performance.

I've been using LMNT for the past 2 years, and it's had an immense effect on my health and performance.

Hey friend,

When I was in my mid 20's I came at a crossroads in my life.

At the time I was working a corporate job that was paying good money and, for someone who had dropped out of high school, this was a big accomplishment.

I had a somewhat stable income and had chances of advancing myself up the ranks of the corporate ladder.

But there was one problem: I hated my job.

I dragged myself into work every day only to punch the clock at the end of the day.

Then something happened that would change the course of my life forever.

My job was moving to another town and they were offering a small severance to anyone who didn't want to come.

I had a choice: Keep climbing up the corporate ladder or pursue something I was passionate about, which was fitness.

I took it as a sign to bet on myself and do something I was passionate about.

Now, 20+ years later, here I am talking to you :)

That said...

Here is your 4 Minute Friday:

1. The worst type of plastic to keep at your home

Do you have this in your kitchen? If so, you may want to throw it out immediately.

Scientists wanted to study the safety of black plastic kitchen utensils. They tested over 200 black plastic items, including kitchen tools and food containers.

The researchers analyzed these items for toxic chemicals, particularly flame retardants. They found many black plastic utensils contained high levels of harmful substances, including banned chemicals like decaBDE.

Here are some things you should know:

  • 85% of analyzed products contained toxic flame retardants
  • Some items had chemical levels up to 3% by weight
  • These toxins can leach into food, especially when heated

Black plastic kitchen utensils may pose increased health risks due to the presence of harmful chemicals. Contamination likely results from recycling electronic waste into consumer products.

So do yourself a favor and remove these from your kitchen asap.

2. How to smell your way to a smarter brain

This simple trick could boost your brain power overnight.

Scientists* tested if smelling different scents at night could improve thinking in older people. They split 43 adults (60-85 years old) into two groups:

  1. Smell group: Different scents each night for 2 hours. The rotated 7 rotating fragrances (rose, orange, eucalyptus, lemon, peppermint, rosemary, and lavender)
  2. Control group: No special scents

After 6 months, the results were amazing:

  • Smell group showed a 226% improvement in memory tests
  • Brain scans revealed better connections between memory and emotion areas

Want to keep your mind sharp? Try smelling some aromatherapy before bed.

It's an easy, cheap way to potentially enhance brain health.

*Dan's Note: There was a slight conflict of interest in the study, where researchers received travel expenses and compensation following their presentations. The authors declared that the research was conducted in the absence of any commercial or financial relationships that could be construed as a potential conflict of interest.

❤️ My Favourite Thing this Week

When I go on social media, I see people flaunting their "wealth" by showing what cars they own, the houses they live in, and the watches they wear.

But to me, wealth goes beyond that. Sure, monetary wealth is important and it's worth striving for. But it's empty when it becomes the only thing we base our lives (and self-worth) on.

That's why I love Sahil Bloom's new book The 5 Types of Wealth.

It doesn't just teach you how to be rich. It teaches you how to live a rich fulfilling life.

This particular page hit me like a ton of bricks:

This book will change a lot of lives and I'm pretty sure if you pick it up it might just change yours.

One Quote to Finish Your Week Strong

"Never let the quest for more distract you from the beauty of enough."
― Sahil Bloom from The 5 Types of Wealth

On X, there was a 20 year old who posted advice to other 20 year olds to go into debt to buy a Rolex to impress others.

I disagreed with this take and someone asked if it was because I didn't have one.

I told him that I never had to do that because I always felt like I was enough.

I hope you feel the same way about yourself too.

As promised, get healthier in under 4 minutes.

Transform your body, transform your life,

Dan

PS - Me, when I realize I can smell my way to a better brain.
